It’s the final day of the Premier League on Sunday, and in each game there is something to play for. However, the main focus of the weekend is at the bottom, where two teams out of five will have to face the drop. Wolves, Blackburn, Birmingham, Blackpool and Wigan are all playing for their lives as only point separates all five teams. Manchester United have the league wrapped up, but they will want to end their season in style. Manchester City can claim 3rd if they win at Bolton, or else Arsenal can make them pay for slipping up if they win at Fulham. Tottenham and Liverpool are both fighting for the 5th place in the league, which would claim European football next year, so there is still so much to play for, so read on for the ultimate last day betting guide!
Manchester United v Blackpool
United are only 8/15 to win this, despite having a near 100% record at Old Trafford this season. It is expected for them to put out a weakened side ahead of the Barcelona game next weekend. Blackpool are playing for their lives, and it’s so close at the bottom that they can still win and go down, but they can also lose and stay up, depending on other results of course. Blackpool are 9/2 for this, and maybe worth a punt. I’d back Berbatov to score first at 4/1, but also consider Darren Gibson at 10/1.
My Prediction; Manchester United 3-0 Blackpool (10/1)
Wolves v Blackburn
Both sides sit on 40 points, and if the other teams fail to win, then a draw will see these two sides stay up. However, the losers of this will stare relegation in the face, so there is so much up for grabs here. Wolves have been in good form lately, and are at home here, so I’d back them to win at 6/5.
My Prediction; Wolves 1-0 Blackburn (7/1)
Tottenham v Birmingham
As things stand, Birmingham are out of the relegation zone on goal difference, but their away record is poor and go to Tottenham which is always a hard place to go. Tottenham want 5th place, and I reckon they will have too much for Birmingham.
My Prediction; Tottenham 2-0 Birmingham (6/1)
Stoke City v Wigan
Stoke have had a great season, but unfortunately couldn’t win the FA Cup. Wigan have been in the relegation battle all season, but arguably have the easiest fixture on the last day, so a win here would give them a great chance of survival (11/8), so I’d go for that with N’Zogbia scoring first (7/1).
My Prediction; Stoke 2-2 Wigan (14/1)
Aston Villa v Liverpool
Despite having a poor season, it has ended quite comfortably for Villa. Liverpool have also had a poor season, but recent form suggests they may be top contenders next year. Liverpool hope to win here and hope Tottenham drop points to secure 5th place. However, I can see a draw in this game (9/4).
My Prediction; Aston Villa 1-1 Liverpool (11/2)
Bolton v Manchester City
Man City have ended this season brilliantly, securing Champions League football and winning the FA Cup. They may go one better though, if they win this game and clinch 3rd place, which means automatic Champions League football. I reckon this game may be a surprise though, as Bolton are very formidable at home so I can see this being a draw(11/4).
My Prediction: Bolton 2-2 Manchester City (14/1)
Fulham v Arsenal
This season has so much promise for Arsenal, but they have collapsed at the end of this season, and could fail to finish in top 3 which is not good for their standards. Fulham will give them a hard game, and for them to win is 13/5, so worth a punt.
My Prediction; Fulham 3-1 Arsenal (33/1)
West Ham v Sunderland
After being relegated last week, they now have this game to save some pride against a Sunderland that has more people injured then available. Home win here (EVENS).
My Prediction; West Ham 2-1 Sunderland (7/1)
Everton v Chelsea
This game doesn’t have anything riding on it. Everton are in a safe top half position, and Chelsea will finish 2nd no matter what. All the games so far this season have been draws between the sides. This time I will go for an away win (13/10) with Torres to score first (4/1).
My Prediction; Everton 1-2 Chelsea (7/1)
Newcastle v West Brom
Last but not least, as these two promoted sides are in a comfortable position going into the last game, which both teams wanted. Newcastle to win this one for me ((EVENS).
My Prediction; Newcastle 3-2 West Brom (25/1)
