We all love when the football season is back, because there is actually something do on weekday nights! Nothing like watching football on a Wednesday night and there is great football ahead tonight. There are key Champions League qualifiers tonight, and then they are followed by the small matter that is Barcelona v Real Madrid. Here are a few betting tips and predictions for tonight’s match, as it football matters more when there is money on it!
Spanish Super Cup
Barcelona v Real Madrid – 10:00pm Wednesday
The first leg was a fascinating match, which finished 2-2 at the Bernabeu. Real Madrid showed great pressure and energy to outplay Barcelona for large periods of the match. This didn’t stop Barcelona scoring however, as moments of brilliance from David Villa and Lionel Messi scored a goal each to set up a fantastic second leg. We have to wait all the way to 10:00pm (in the UK) for this match to kick off tonight but it should be an enthralling one. Barcelona are always favourites in every match they play, and at home their odds don’t even seem long enough to bet on. However, the odds for them winning tonight, at home, is one of the shortest it has been in years, at just 5/6, which is nearly EVENS. A Real Madrid victory tonight is 16/5, but I must remind you that all these odds are in the 90 minutes. For an outright winner, Barcelona is 1/3 and Real Madrid is 9/4. Barcelona of course have home advantage, but there also scored 2 goals on Sunday night, giving them the advantage of away goals, as a 0-0 or 1-1 draw will see Barcelona win. For it to be 2-2 and go all the way to penalties then that is priced at 12/1. First goal scorer tonight? There are so many to choose from, from Ronaldo to Messi or to Fabregas (12/1). If you want bigger odds for better rewards, then I’d go Andres Iniesta who is at a kind 11/1, so he would be my choice. I truly hope for another fantastic game, and I learnt a rule last year, and that is to never bet against Barcelona. However, tonight may be the night, so go for a Real Madrid win, as they seem up for it this season!
My Recommendation; Barcelona 1-2 Real Madrid (12/1)
Champions League Qualifiers
Bayern Munich v FC Zurich – 7:45pm
No one is expecting any surprises tonight, and the odds for a home win here is 1/5. If you’re feeling lucky or stupid, then any win is priced at 12/1. Zurich don’t have a lot of experience in the Champions League, and they are coming up against one of the best teams in Europe who always aim to win the Champions League, and two years ago they reached the final. Arjen Robben is 3/1, as well as other Bayern Munich players so I don’t see real value in that, so I am going to go for Rafinha at 25/1.
My Recommendation; Bayern Munich 4-1 FC Zurch (10/1)
Dinamo Zagreb v Malmo – 7:45pm
The Croatian side are favourites against the team from Sweden in this fixture, although over two legs it will prove to be a very tight match. Neither side has great European experience in the biggest competition in the world, and for both teams this is a great chance. The home team are 8/13 for this match, and I’d fancy them to nick it tonight due to home advantage. The away side are 5/1 for this.
My Recommendation; Dinamo Zagreb 1-0 Malmo (5/1)
Odense v Villarreal – 7:45pm
Villarreal are slight favourites for tonight but overwhelming favourites to progress. It’s never easy away from home in Europe and Villarreal will have a tricky game tonight. They haven’t played many games in pre season, where as Odense are currently playing in their season. Odense has finished 2nd in the last 3 year in Danish football and are 10/3 to win tonight, so don’t expect it to be too easy for Villarreal.
My Recommendation; Odense 2-2 Villarreal (14/1)
Wisla Krakow v Apoel Nicosia – 7:45pm
One of the lowest profile matches tonight, but nonetheless you could add it to an accumulator. The away side were in the Champions League last season, but tonight are not the favourites in this clash. The home side, from Poland, are 10/11 to win this match and I would tip them tonight.
My Recommendation; Wisla Krakow 2-1 Apoel Nicolsia (7/1)
Maccabi Haifa v Genk – 7:45pm
Last, but certainly not least, as one of these teams will have to prove their merit a chance in the big time this season. The home side, have been there before and are EVENS to win tonight. Genk have had chances to qualify in the past, but maybe tonight they will make it count, but their odds are 14/5. The draw is the most likely result in my opinion.
My Recommendation; Maccabi Haifa 1-1 Genk (5/1)
